P36. An Analysis of Collagen Cross Linking via Nonenzymatic Glycation in the Intervertebral Disc

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Modification of proteins through the process of Nonenzymatic glycation (NEG) occurs through the normal aging process. It has been hypothesized that areas that demonstrate a decreased turnover of these proteins accumulate these Advanced Glycation Endproducts (AGEs) which results in a stiffer collagen network.
