Dysesthesia of the anterior surface of the thigh, often mistakenly thought to be a manifestation of a spinal disorder, are most commonly due to a neuropathy of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve, described as “meralgia paresthetica” by Martin Bernhardt (1844–1915) in 1878. The disorder is sometimes called “Bernhardt disease.”1, 2
